HOW TO CHOOSE AN ARCHITECT
This is an addition/renovation to a Takoma Park house originally built in 1896! We've created new space above the existing house, giving the owners a new master suite, storage and laundry on the second floor. An existing attic gets renovated and expanded to provide a family rec room and a guest room/home office.
HOW DO I KNOW IF I’M REQUIRED TO SUBMIT A HISTORIC AREA WORK PERMIT?
If your house is specifically listed as an individual historic site (less common) or is a property within a historic district (more common), you need to submit a Historic Area Work Permit (HAWP). I’ll give you an overview of the entire process so you can save time and get through review as quickly as possible.
A few images from the project. We are finishing up the drawing set, getting ready to apply for our building permit. That means all the project images are drawings…for now.
An Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) is a complete, independent living space on your property or within your house that is separate form your primary residence. Read the post for the answers to these questions, links to some official resources AND downloads of actual drawings and applications from an ADU project.
