If there were such a thing as a typical home addition project, it would probably include an enlarged, improved or maybe relocated kitchen.
When I sit down with new clients for the first time we often spend a good amount of time talking about the kitchen and how it will be used. Will your kitchen be the center of life for the renovated home or do you want it to be a private retreat for the chef? Do you need formal or informal eating areas in or adjacent to the kitchen? How much storage do you realistically need? Do you want an island? If so, flat top or a transaction counter? And on and on.
I don't have those answers for YOUR project today, but I do have a bunch of images of kitchen floor plans. Take a look and maybe get some ideas for your own project. Then maybe set up a consult to get some free advice about how to turn your vision into reality.
I also have a similar post about owner suite ideas and bathroom floor plan ideas.
This one happens to be my own new construction house in Takoma Park. Follow the link to see the full plans and some pictures of the final space.
A large kitchen with walk-in pantry. If you're sitting at the island the living room is behind you and a formal dining room is off to the left.
A large kitchen with walk-in pantry and a butler's pantry. This rear addition in Kensington is done! Follow the link to see the floor plan and how the kitchen connects to the living space, screened porch and formal dining room.
This large kitchen was relocated into an unused dining room. It connects a new sunroom with an open dining area and maybe the largest walk-in pantry in Howard County! Visit the sunroom addition page to see the floor plans. The owner suite bathroom from this project is also shown on my bathroom layout ideas page.
This design is for a slightly smaller kitchen and includes a built-in desk/homework area. Not apparent from a floor plan is how much bigger the space will feel with a tall cathedral ceiling and lots of glazing on the rear wall.
A humble kitchen for one or two chefs. This one is part of an attached Accessory Dwelling Unit. Follow that link to learn everything you ever wanted to know about ADUs in Montgomery County!
A small, dated kitchen got a big upgrade by extending into an existing bedroom. That room (and a new one) got relocated into a rear addition. This kitchen is now the center of life. Check out the plans and view the owner's retreat in the Seven Locks rear addition project.
