No excessive write up about how amazing bathrooms are. This is just a bunch of bathroom plan layouts you can look…at. I'll start with some of the most basic layouts and then add some of the custom bathroom layouts I've done in some of my recent home additions.
BASIC BATHROOM LAYOUT
These are the two most basic bathroom layouts. The 7′-6″ wide version gets you a 30″ tub, 30″ clearance at the toilet (required) and a 30″ vanity. If you have space for the 8′-0″ wide version you can get a 36″ vanity. The entry door could work in either location.

LARGER HALL BATHROOMS
If you have multiple kids sharing the hall bathroom it might be desirable to separate the toilet and tub from the vanity.
If you want a large vanity or a little more clearance behind the vanity you can do something like this. The bump a the shower lets you use a standard 60″ shower or tub and can create a useful nook in the adjacent room.
FHA BATHROOM LAYOUTS
If you are looking for a little more space, clearance or accessibility you might consider an FHA Useable bathroom. These are from the Fair House Act Design Manual
FHA ‘A' Bathroom
I used this one in my 1-Bedroom ADU Plan. Technically it could work in 5′-2″ but I think that gets a bit tight at the door.
FHA ‘B' Bathroom
A second FHA bathroom.
LARGE OWNER SUITE BATHROOMS
This one is a typical layout. You don't need the solid wall between the shower and vanity, but I like to include it for a few reasons; good place for outlets and switches and helps visually frame the vanity.
The next bathroom is at my own new construction house in Takoma Park. Follow that link to see the full plans. We enter the bathroom through our closet, which has a sliding barn door. If the toilet is in a water closet you don't need another door to enter the bathroom. My wife doesn't love this. I used detailed drawings of this bathroom in my post explaining architecture fees for home addition.
Here's a slightly different layout of a similar bathroom. Follow the link to see the complete floor plans with the large owner bedroom.
I like aligning a shower or some other nice-looking thing behind the vanity. If this next plan was at my house I would have tried to get the toilet in its own room, but in this case that wasn't important to the owner.
Super large bathroom the first. I've had more than a few clients want to create a full shower room enclosure big enough for a free-standing tub.
Another bathroom!
Most of these owner suite bathrooms are integrated with a walk-in closet. I haven't been showing those, but I think for this one it makes sense to highlight the relationship. The owners ended up not finishing the bathroom exactly this way.
I'm running out of ways to sav, here's another bathroom! This one is in the home of a builder friend of mine, Abel Canizalez from Llaveroes Services.
Here's another bathroom with a big shower. See the full plans and some 3D views of this second floor addition.
Super large bathroom the second. The shower-behind-the-vanity is a fun move, but you really need space to burn to pull this one off. Luckily this home was on a farm.
And one more bathroom with a shower room! See the rest of the plans from this two-story side and rear addition.
